web site which is updated on a regular basis as the information gained from new research and input from fellow family historians is added. i always appreciate comments from those visiting this site who have a common interest in the families i have researched. what's here there are many web sites devoted to research into individual families but so far i have found few that include reliable information relating to the holland family who lived in lancashire and north wales during the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. the site is not limited to the holland family in north wales & lancashire alone however. my paternal grandfather richard holland was born in the city of chester, cheshire. my maternal grandfather john parker was born in birkenhead, cheshire. i have researched both my grandparents families with surnames of paddy , parker , onions , carrington , bagnall , dodd , lacey & thomas together with my wife's family names of griffith , mcmahon , holloway , detton & walker . these families resided in many uk counties including, but not exclusively, cheshire, lancashire, shropshire, flintshire, denbighshire, somerset, staffordshire, warwickshire, middlesex, durham and lancashire. as with all families the descendants of these families have now spread far and wide but the records left behind of the family from these times gives a fascinating insight to how these people lived. there are currently 581 holland names in my family tree of whom the vast majority were born in or had ancestors from the counties of flintshire and denbighshire in north wales. in fact if you can trace a holland relative who was born from about 1690 to 1900 in flintshire there is an 80% chance that they link to my family tree. in total there are 2042 names linked to the family which can be accessed via either the searchable database or html family trees. for those researchers who have traced holland ancestry beyond the commencement of civil and church records there is an increasing amount of information provided on these pages relating to holland pedigrees both in lancashire and north wales. at the moment no conclusive evidence exists to link my own family tree to these pedigrees, however research is continuing in this area. as this site develops i hope to further extend the family tree online and provide as much by way of photographs, biographical data and local history as i can to put some context around the lives of people who, in the most part, seemed to have had fairly hard lives. newly added in late 2016 is information of the different coats of arms borne by various branches of the holland family and how they derive from the both the earliest holland families known and the subsequent families linked by marriage. also added in 2016 is a searchable database of my holland family making it possible to search on a variety of criteria including surname, first name, place of birth/marriage/death/burial. access to the database is via the my family tree page. acknowledgements i have to give considerable thanks to my 1st cousin (one removed) yvonne humphreys (formerly holland) for much of the detailed research into the holland family that she undertook prior to my interest in family history. yvonne has spent many hours at hawarden record office and the national library of wales at aberystwyth unearthing and acquiring the documentary evidence which underpins the family tree here. yvonne's brother brian holland has now joined the collaboration and has provided much of the input supporting the pages dealing with holland pedigrees and coats of arms . since the site was launched some ten years ago many other people researching the same family names have contacted me to add and exchange research data. i would like to thank all those who have contributed photographs and other family information which in some way has gone towards building my knowledge of the wider family and helped to expand the content of this web site. how
